Every year the Adventures In Missions students go to Mexico City for a week as part of their cultural and ministry training. It is always a wonderful time to watch them as they experience another culture for the first time, to grow closer to them as we work side by side, and to be reminded that God’s plan is much bigger than America. It is also where Katie spent her field time during AIM, and it is always good for her to see the people she worked with when she was there.
Unfortunately, Katie and I have not been able to go for several years, and we thought we weren’t going to be going this year. It costs money to make the trip and we are currently trying to raise funds to get to Ukraine. It didn’t seem right to use any of our saved money to go, and we certainly didn’t want to try and raise it when we’re having a hard enough time raising money for Ukraine. But yesterday we got a call out of the blue from Sunset’s finance office. The message: Someone has anonymously donated enough funds specifically so you can make this trip with the AIMers.
Wow.
We didn’t ask anyone, and only poor AIMers and AIM assistants knew we weren’t going because of finances, so it wasn’t them. As we let the news sink in, Katie began to cry happy tears as she thought about this being her last chance to visit her field for quite a long time. She also began to think of the people she’d see (and hasn’t seen for four years) and said she started to get butterflies in her stomach. We had convinced ourselves that we were okay not making this trip, but God has blessed us with the desires of our hearts. Even though we don’t deserve it.
So to whomever you are, thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Thank you for your truly selfless gift.

You have been truly blessed, and isn’t it wonderful to realize how we are all constantly uplifted by the church, the body of Christ, who makes God’s plans for us become reality.
