Christian Movie Reviews – Plugged In Online

November 24, 2008

News, Reviews

I love movies, but I’ve gotten tired of all the garbage that Hollywood keeps packing into a PG-13 movie, and how close to porn R movies are getting.  And it’s always a guessing game — a preview doesn’t let onto how bad the language might be, or how much sex will be included.

I’m not sure how many of you remember ScreenIt.com, a service for parents that gives an in-depth review on all the content in a movie (language, sex, drug use, etc.).  The site was around back when I was in high school, and hasn’t seen much change over the years.  Unfortunately, the biggest change the site has made is switching to a subscription service (which I understand, but can’t afford to use), and pushing a wait time of one or two weeks before posting reviews for their free version, which has obnoxious ads running on top of it.

Over the last year or so I’ve been using a new site to check out movie content that I enjoy much more than ScreenIt.  It’s called Plugged In Online, and it is done by the people at Focus On The Family. The site posts in-depth reports on the content of the newest, most popular movies (they don’t do every release) and give the whole thing a Christian review (something ScreenIt lacks).  Not only are these reviews very informative, I often find the reviews very well written.

The site’s not just a Christian film reviews site either.  Plugged In Online gives a Christian’s take on all the new music, television, and video games on the market.  They also post different articles on the media today which I often enjoy.  Right now there’s a article called Bringing Porn To The Populace, which they “grapple with America’s growing enthusiasm for hyper-sexualized images and ideas—encouraged by the Internet, picture phones, TV, video games, books, magazines and [the new 'R' comedy Zack and Miri Make a Porno].”  Check out part II here.

I’m tired of getting my movie reviews from Christians who can only tell me, “It’s not that bad.”  Plugged In Online helps give Christians the information they need to know if it’s a movie they really want to go see or not.
