Our Quick Trip To Coffeyville

News

We drove up to Coffeyville late Saturday afternoon and got to spend about an hour visiting with the elder over missions and his wife, and then around six most of the elders and their wives, and the deacons and their wives (plus the minister and his family) showed up for dinner. We met a lot of new people and got to tell them all briefly about the work we want to do in Kharkov.

Sunday morning we arrived to the church’s building early to get our computer set up for the PowerPoint presentation. As I opened the program and didn’t see my file listed in my “Recents” folder, my heart dropped. I realized at that moment that I had forgotten to transfer the file from my external hard drive to my computer. I had it backed up in two places…at home. (Yet another reason to move important files to the cloud.) Fortunately I had an old presentation on our netbook that I was able to use instead, but even that was rough as it was made for a certain congregation and some of the pictures weren’t working anymore either.

So that was the Bible class hour. It did go fine, and I told everyone upfront what had happened so it wasn’t awkward in that sense. During our worship hour together I was able to preach, and that did go well. A large group of us went out to lunch afterward, then Katie and I spent a couple hours with the preacher and his wife, then we drove back to Broken Arrow and arrived home around 4:30. We rested up for a couple hours then headed up to B.A.’s first night of VBS!

It was a quick trip, but a good trip. If nothing else comes from it, we did get to spend time with some good people, and we even came home with some one-time support. Thanks to everyone in Coffeyville who worked to make this weekend happen.

Thanks for coming up, spending time with us, encouraging us by talking about your plans (that godly enthusiasm is helpful), and giving me a break from preaching Sunday morning!

Hopefully we’ll get to hang out a little more before you take off to Kharkov.
