Today has been moving too fast to realize that everything about our life has changed. We are here for the night in Lockney, Texas. Everything we own is either in our van or the U-Haul trailer behind Glenn’s truck. Until we pull into Broken Arrow tomorrow afternoon we have no home.
The transition has been strange for sure. We’ve basically been saying goodbye for a month and a half now, so we weren’t on the brink of tears today or anything. At the same time, though, it made my heart heavy to know that these goodbyes were the more permanent kind. But then again, we’ll probably be visiting Lubbock at least a couple more times before we leave for Ukraine in January, so even the permanent goodbyes really aren’t.
Getting our entire life into a minivan and an 5×8 trailer was no small feat. I’m not sure we could have done it if it wasn’t for our good friend Jay Don, the preacher here in Lockney. In his former life, he was a professional mover, and the skills he brought to that little U-Haul were nothing short of impressive. Because he was so meticulous about the packing, the rest of us just stood around until he told us what kind of box he needed next. It was pretty funny, and we all enjoyed just watching him work his magic.
The plan from here on out is as follows. Tomorrow morning we’ll be leaving Lockney with Glenn and Amy around 7:00. It’s about a seven hour drive, but with stops and maybe a lunch break, we’re hoping to get to Broken Arrow around 3:00ish to get our key and sign our lease and all that good stuff. At 4:00, some of the members from the congregation will show up to help us unload and carry our things to our third floor apartment. Then, between 4:00-7:00, Cox Cable should show up to get our internet connected. Then, our new life in Oklahoma will have officially begun.
We are so grateful for all the friends we have in our life. We couldn’t do this without you, and we are unworthy of your endless generosity. Thanks to everyone who made this day go so quickly. We will miss our Lubbock family very much!

I’ve been thinking about you guys as you go to Broken Arrow. I remember our times like that, so busy. Too busy, in fact, to really process all that’s happening. I was also thinking it was going to be terrible (for us, because we wouldn’t hear from you) during the days you didn’t have internet – thinking back to our time in Phoenix when the company took quite awhile to get us hooked up. Glad your internet will be up so soon!
